Sara has just returned from a long weekend in Toronto. Only a 7 hour flight from London makes it a perfect option for a short break. There is so much to do and no trip is complete without a visit to Niagara Falls.
The best area to stay is Downtown. Here you will find a good mixture of hotels and apartments to suit everyone, giving you easy access to most attractions, public transport, shopping and restaurants.
Take a trip up the CN tower where you can admire the views over the city on one side and the vast Lake Ontario the other. There are museums dotted throughout the city focus on everything from Canada's Indigenous First Nations, to sport such as the Hockey Hall of Fame. For something more relaxing why not take a boat trip to Toronto Islands, where you can escape the hustle of the city and relax in the open parks and beaches. The gothic inspired Casa Loma mansion is located in midtown on a hill overlooking downtown Toronto. Its gardens and impressive building has made it a popular location for filming movies and television.
I highly suggest taking an 'Urban Adventure', a small group walking tour. I did the 'Beer Makes History Better' tour. Oh, I found it does!! Our guide was so knowledgeable. Ask us about your own 'Urban Adventure' as we can offer them in various cities all over the world.
Last but not least there is the incredible Niagara Falls. It is a long day trip but well worth it, alternatively you could make it into a stay for a night or two.
A trip on the Hornblower boat which takes you as close to the falls as possible while getting you completely soaked, or not. In the colder months when the boat trips aren't running you can 'Walk Behind the Falls' which runs all year round. You should also take a walk around the beautiful Victoria Gardens. For some thing truly amazing there are scenic helicopter flights over the falls, or a Zip Wire, or jet-boating experience.
Take a trip out to the gorgeous Niagara-on-the-Lake, a quintessential small town with boutique shops, local produce shops, cute cafes and beautiful parks. You could even enjoy a horse drawn carriage ride.
We finished our day in Niagara sampling some Ice Wine, unique to this region of Canada, with its special method of fermentation.
